Stephen Wright

Having left Cambridge University where Stephen studied law and modern languages, he co-founded the Oxford and Cambridge Shakespeare Company. Stephen then set up and ran the European office of an American concert management agency, Shawconcerts Ltd, after which he joined Harold Holt Ltd, later becoming Managing Director. Among the artists he managed were Mariss Jansons, Neville Marriner, John Eliot Gardiner and Seiji Ozawa. Stephen left Harold Holt with his division to set up IMG Artists Europe in 1991 where he became MD with responsibility for developing the business internationally. Stephen also established an audiovisual department at IMG Artists, setting up the BBC Legends CD label and producing a number of television and DVD programmes.

A London-born Greek-Canadian, Costa started his career as an agent in Canada and later served as Director of Music at Ottawa's National Arts Centre before joining the Boston Symphony Orchestra as Artistic Administrator. He then spent almost 20 years in the record industry and was president of Philips, Decca and later EMI Classics. He is a passionate sailor, skier and tennis player.

Mark Newbanks

Having studied cello with Janos Starker at Indiana University, Bloomington, Mark gained initial experience at IMG Artists in New York and at Konzertdirektion Schmid in Hanover, then served as General Manager of the Camerata Academica in Salzburg, before joining Askonas Holt in 2003 as a Senior Artist Manager. He was subsequently promoted to a Director and Board Member in 2007. Mark enjoys swimming and scuba diving, and is a keen supporter of involving arts in education.

Peter studied trombone and piano at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Most recently he was, for twelve years, head of Intermusica's Tours & Projects department, which he founded. He has a particular passion for all things Asian, especially China where he has travelled extensively both for personal and professional reasons.

Anthony Guter

Anthony added a Chartered Accountancy qualification to his economics degree from Cambridge University and then gained both operational and head office experience with a world leader in auto parts. There followed 13 years of financial and systems work in computer games publishing and distribution, with Mastertronic, Virgin Games and Sega Europe, where he was European IT Manager. He joined Van Walsum in 1998.

Rosamund graduated with a degree in music from London University (Royal Holloway), where she studied cello, piano and singing, then worked in the City in Public Relations for several years. After a career break, and two daughters later, she went to work for her local Museum Service, then to ABRSM, where she spent two years in the Professional Development Department. Still active as a singer, she sings regularly with two local choirs in Hertfordshire and is also a guest singer with the Philharmonia Chorus.

After achieving her Masters in Management of Artistic Organisations at the Paris-Dauphine University, Aurelie started working in the TV production industry on diverse cultural shows in France. She then joined Ideale Audience International where she collaborated on various projects, including the Classic Archive Series and the documentary film “La Danse: The Paris Opera Ballet” by Frederick Wiseman. Aurelie enjoys playing the piano, horse riding in her native Berry and sailing around the Mediterranean Sea.

Juliet Brown

After gaining her degree in Technical Theatre at Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama in London, Juliet specialised in Stage and Company Management, working for opera companies such as Glyndebourne Opera, Grange Park Opera and Opera Zuid in The Netherlands and venues such as the Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris and Festspielhauβ, Baden-Baden.  She is passionate about travelling and cooking, being particularly influenced by Italy and Indonesia where she has strong personal connections.  Juliet joined VWM in 2009.

After studying music at Manchester University, Katy joined the music department of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s production company the Really Useful Group. During her six years at the company she worked on critically acclaimed west end productions, along with publishing and recording projects. She enjoys playing the piano and transcribing songs for her three-part a cappella group.

Sally initially studied French, and following jobs in the wine trade and publishing pursued a career in the arts, working firstly for Arts and Business, joining VWM in 1995. She studied singing privately for many years, and maintains an active interest, performing regularly with several of the UK's leading chamber choirs.

 

Nicholas Goldwyn

After a 10-year performing career, Nicholas tuned his administrative management skills with leading firms in environmental, psychology and management consultancy, law, publishing and talent management before joining VWM in 2006. His passion for opera fuses his interests in music, performance, stagecraft, design and architecture.

Tuck May worked for the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra for close to nine years, most recently as their Artistic Administrator. As well as being involved with season planning and the booking of tours, she also took a special interest in education and outreach projects. Tuck May previously studied the piano and flute at the Royal College of Music, before reading for her degree of Masters in Marketing at the University of Westminster. She still accompanies and plays chamber music in her spare time.

After studying applied linguistics at the Warsaw University for two years, Magda continued her higher education in London and graduated in Media Studies and Music Management. She enjoys participating in the London arts scene and, together with friends, has recently launched an electronic music night.

Janet performed in a rock band in Liverpool before studying viola with Nannie Jamieson at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Following post-graduate study in arts management she worked in the marketing department of the London Philharmonic and for Sir John Eliot Gardiner’s period ensembles. She joined VWM in 1997.

Clare Mill

Clare studied music at Hull University before working for the Musician's Answering Service for 18 months. After spending a year working and travelling in Australia and South-East Asia, Clare joined Van Walsum Management in 2004. She studied the flute and still enjoys performing as a member of her local orchestra.

 

Clare is currently on maternity leave until early 2011. In her absence, her role is being covered by Will Parsons.

Claire completed her BMus at King’s College London with Violin studies at the Royal Academy of Music before gaining a Master’s degree in Conducting and Sound Recording from the University of Surrey and joining VWM soon after. Outside of work Claire enjoys teaching the violin to a range of students and regularly performs with the Sinfonia Tamesa orchestra in London.

After a History of Art degree, Will qualified as a solicitor, practicing in London and Singapore. In tandem with his City career, Will was opera critic for a national magazine and a director of the London Philharmonic Choir, one of the choirs in which he sings. Passionate about music, he left the City to gain experience with Harrison Parrott and the City of London Sinfonia before joining VWM in 2009. A keen skier and diver, he keeps up his piano playing whilst his clarinet gathers dust.

After studying at the Royal Academy of Music, Peter spent six years as principal horn with two of South Africa's leading orchestras. Returning to London, Peter performed extensively with many of the UK's top orchestras before joining VWM in 2001.

Liz has worked in the arts for 15 years. After studying at the Queensland Conservatorium and The Univerisity of Queensland, she worked in orchestral management in Australia. She has worked at VWM since 2001.

Elena Silina

Elena graduated from the St Petersburg Conservatoire with a degree in Musicology and has lived in London since 2000. She is currently working on tours with various orchestras, including Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, Gothenborg Symphony Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra and others.

Gillian Taylor

An accountant since 1980 (with 2 years out in the 1990s to train as a veterinary nurse), Gillian looks after VWM’s bookkeeping and credit control. She gained an English degree a very long time ago, and is now studying for a Science degree with the Open University.

After studying Music at Bristol University and followed by a Masters in Marketing, Louise began working for Stephen Wright at IMG Artists in 2002. She moved with Stephen to his new consultancy company, where she worked on Kenneth Branagh’s film of Mozart’s Magic Flute amongst other projects. In addition to working at Van Walsum, Louise continues work on Stephen’s consultancy projects.

After studying piano, organ and musicology in her native Poland, Monika completed a post-graduate arts management diploma in London. Since 2000, she has worked with renowned conductors and orchestras at IMG Artists before joining VWM in 2009. With a strong interest in English medieval music, Monika also enjoys film, theatre and trekking in the mountains.
